Online Worship: 9th January 2022, Baptism of Christ

This Sunday is the 9th of January 2022,
the Baptism of Christ

Grace, mercy and peace
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
be with you.

Welcome to our Online Worship for this week.

For some weeks over the Advent and Christmas period, we used live streams from St Mary’s but today we are back with some pre-recorded material to help all those who are worshipping from home. We hope you had a good New Year and are looking with faith and hope into 2022. Our thanks to Stewart and Sally Biggs for recording the Bible reading and the sermon for today.

These are obviously tricky times with the Omicron variant of Covid-19 seeming to be highly transmissible. Rev David is just emerging from self-isolation himself and many others locally have been caught too. Please be vigilant in doing the things that will protect yourself and others and if you need some help with anything, please do get in touch so that we can offer assistance.

There are a number of things to be aware of at the moment. This page will tell you more.

Prayers for today

Prayers of Intercession
for Epiphany

Jesus calls us out of darkness into his marvellous light.
Washed clean by the waters of baptism,
let us pray that we may live the life to which he has called us.

Lord Jesus, eternal Word,
proclaimed as the Christ by John the forerunner,
hear us as we pray for all who proclaim your word …
Lord of truth,
hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus, baptizing with the Spirit and with fire,
strengthen us to withstand all the trials of our faith …
Lord of truth,
hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus, bringing forgiveness to all who repent,
teach your Church dependence on your grace …
Lord of truth,
hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus, fulfilment of the promises of old,
give hope to all who suffer or are ignored …
Lord of truth,
hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus, beloved Son of the Father,
anoint us with the gifts of your Holy Spirit …
Lord of truth,
hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus, bringer of hope,
share with all the faithful the riches of eternal life …
Lord of truth,
hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus Christ,
in you the Father makes us and all things new.
Transform the poverty of our nature
by the riches of your grace,
and in the renewal of our lives
make known your heavenly glory.

A prayer about the COVID-19 pandemic

God of compassion,
have mercy upon this nation and our world
in this time of fear and confusion:
we bring before you those who are suffering from the Coronavirus;
the aged and those who are most vulnerable
and for all who tend to their needs;
we pray for those who are now in isolation;
may know your comfort and company
and that those around them may truly love their neighbour
by prayer and in works of care and kindness;
we pray for health professionals, doctors, nurses and hospital support staff
as they answer their vocation under increasing pressure;
and we pray for those upon whose shoulders
the yoke of leadership rests,
that in their conversation and communication
your still small voice may be heard;
we ask this in the power of the Holy Spirit,
through the One who stretched out his hands to bless and to heal
even Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Collect for this Sunday

Heavenly Father,
at the Jordan you revealed Jesus as your Son:
may we recognize him as our Lord
and know ourselves to be your beloved children;
through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

May God,
who in Christ gives us a spring of water welling up to eternal life,
perfect in you the image of his glory;
and may the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.

Be at peace. Love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
